A powerful and poignant drama about the families we choose, and the secrets that can tear them apart.

Eleanor brings her boyfriend home to meet her two moms, and she lets them know that she wants to find her biological father. Nadine, her non-biological mom thinks it’s a great idea, partly because she had a wonderful relationship with her own father. Allison, Eleanor’s biological mom is less enthusiastic, insisting she doesn’t even remember his name, and he never knew about Eleanor. Nadine secretly gives Allison the name Doug. This information sends Eleanor on a journey to an unexpected and explosive answer to the question “Where do I come from?” The fallout forces the whole family to confront the past in order to move on to a better future.

Lyrics by Scott Wittman | Marc Shaiman

Based on the New Line Cinema film written and directed by John Waters

November 27th – December 29th, 2019

The 1950s are out, and change is in the air! Hairspray, winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, is a family-friendly musical, piled bouffant-high with laughter, romance and deliriously tuneful songs.

It’s 1962 in Baltimore, and the lovable plus-size teen, Tracy Turnblad, has only one desire – to dance on the popular “Corny Collins Show.” When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob, Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network… all without denting her ‘do!

Sweat

by Lynn Nottage

Jan. 29 – Feb. 15, 2020

Lynn Nottage

Lynn Nottage

Playwright

Lynn Nottage won the Pulitzer Prize for this riveting new play.

It’s the year 2000 in Reading, Pennsylvania and a group of friends go to work at the steel mill and then decompress at the bar like they’ve been doing for years. These workers have planned to save money and then retire with a nice, healthy pension. But their mill is making changes and the generations of loyalty these workers have shown don’t seem to amount to much. The company is considering layoffs, the war between community and capitalism begins, and tensions start destroying not only jobs, but relationships.

When Marnie drags her much put-upon bestie Jane to a belly dancing class they are swept into a shimmying circle of sometimes endearing, sometimes outrageous women. Their friendship is tested through the demands of their spouses, babies, work lives and the arrival of some unexpected roommates.

But through all the belly aches, dilemmas, betrayals and some very ‘special’ cakes, the two friends learn to face life’s challenges as they prepare for a special charity night at their local Turkish restaurant.
