Participants train and gain experience in playwriting, acting, physical theatre, voice, music and dance to work together and create their own play. Led by professional artists, participants gain confidence, practice, creative problem solving, group work and performance skills through theatre exercises and collective creation.

All classes are held at Theatre Aquarius Arts Education Centre at 55 Wentworth St. South Hamilton, ON L8N 2Y5

At the end of the week long session (March 16 at 5pm), participants share their work with friends and family at Theatre Aquarius Studio Theatre.

Rigorous exercises in voice and movement, text analysis, scene study, ensemble work and exploration of physical theatre provide students with a structured course in theatre fundamentals. First year and returning students learn and grow with increasingly challenging material and instruction. Participants work with their instructor to analyze text, determine objectives, rehearse, present and receive notes. Participants engage in scene work, developing listening and responding skills, as well as monologue work to develop individualized training.

Music Theatre (Ages 14 – 17)

Mondays 7:00pm – 9:00pm

April 2 – June 11, 2018 (please note there are no classes on May 21, 2018)

Cost: $260 (+ HST for students 15 years and older)

Musical theatre allows us to express our inner most thoughts, emotions, experience and story through an elevated art form. Unleash your potential in this fast-paced, exciting course that engages musical theatre repertoire to train in singing, dance and acting. Instructors nurture and challenge participants at all skill and experience levels.

Participants engage in equal parts dance and music, while exploring storytelling and performance essentials through music. Participants develop and enhance a wide range of skills and techniques for voice, harmony, solo and ensemble work, as well as movement and acting fundamentals and expression, and a variety of dance forms and choreography, providing essential performance training.

Summer Theatre Camps

Dates for our 2018 Summer Theatre Camps have been announced.

Summer Stock Teen Ensemble (ages 14 – 18)

10 am – 2:30 pm

Cost $550 (+ HST for students 15 years and older)

July 3 – July 28

Theatre Aquarius Summer Stock Teen Ensemble trains, creates and performs a collectively created play for public audiences.

Each day participants engage in active and creative theatre skills classes, including Acting, Physical Theatre, Dance, Music, Design, Story Weaving and Playwriting. Classes are led by professional artists, actors, playwrights, composers, choreographers. In class, artist instructors encourage participants at their own pace and level.

As an ensemble, participants work together to collectively create a new play. The ensemble can utilize a variety of theatre tools to communicate their work including monologues, scenes, puppetry, physical theatre, song, movement. Each ensemble at each session will create their own unique work.

TRAIN. CREATE. PERFORM. 4 WEEK creative theatre intensive, with public performance.
TRAIN: Teens engage in advanced training in Acting, Physical Theatre, Voice, Movement, Musical Theatre, Play Creation and Design, instructed by professional artists. CREATE: Teens develop their own artistic voice and collectively create an original performance piece. With professional guidance, teens choreograph movement, compose songs, write and devise scenes, and make costumes and masks, while working together to create a show. PERFORM: Teens perform their work in Theatre Aquarius Studio Theatre as well as a partnership performance with the Hamilton Fringe Festival.

2 WEEK fun, fast paced, theatre skill building and creativity camp.

Act, sing, dance, create.
Train. Explore. Share.
Gain: confidence, skills, camaraderie, experience and passion for theatre arts.

At the end of the camp, the ensemble presents their work in a performance at Theatre Aquarius’ Studio Theatre.

TRAIN: Young artists develop skills in theatre essentials, including, Acting, Physical Theatre, Voice, Movement, and Musical Theatre, led by professional artists. EXPLORE: Young artists explore their creative potential through theatre creation play, including writing and devising scenes, developing movement, music and songs, shadow puppetry and mask creation. SHARE: Young artists perform and discuss their experience and process with family and friends at an end of camp performance.
