Mask Designer
Alexandra Simpson (she/her) is the co-artistic director of Animacy Theatre Collective (ATC) and a Bi/Queer interdisciplinary theatre artist with a background in dance, physical theatre, and collective creation. She holds a BFA in Performance Acting and an MFA in Documentary Media from Toronto Metropolitan University. Alexandra has trained in clown at the Manitoulin Conservatory for Creation and Performance and in mask building at the Sartori International Workshop in Commedia dell’Arte and at Kyklos Lab in Italy. Most recently, Alex was a performer and creator in the Dora award winning TYA show Finding Home: a salmon journey up the Humber River co-produced by Theatre Direct and ATC. She is a mask builder and loves working with a variety of materials including papier-mâché, leather and Worbla. She has built masks for several ATC productions as well as Lisa Hamalainen’s There is No Word for Wilderness and Trellis Arts’ The Giving Tree.
