Kindling is the story of Mara, a queer mother living through the end of a world. Against a backdrop of climate catastrophe and societal collapse, Mara is both fighting addiction and battling to create a new life for her and her child in the wake of the death of her partner. Inspired by Octavia Butler’s Parables novels and their motifs of rebirth through fire, Kindling asks what recovery means for a society set on watching the world burn.
