Jewelle Blackman has recently returned to Broadway in “HADESTOWN” as a “Fate”, the same role she originated seven years ago. She had last been seen in 2023 as Persephone after taking over the role. This is her Theatre Aquarius Debut. Other credits include The Lion King 2026 & The Lion King 2002-2004, We Will Rock You(Mirvish); Jacques Brel is Alive and well…., Tommy, As You like it, Cabaret (Stratford); Once on This Island, Caroline or Change(Musical Stage); Crowns(Canadian Stage, National Arts Centre, MTC); Dreamgirls, Wizard of Oz(The Grand)
She has appeared on screen in “Ghostwriter,” “The Coroner, “ “Frankie Drake,” and “Nine Lives.
In addition to rooted: a musical poem, she has also written BoyBoy and The Magic Drum; Tar and is the lyricist and co-composer of Airborne: A Bessie Coleman Story. Her works have premiered at The Toronto Fringe Festival, Vanguard New Voices Festival in Montclair, New Jersey and as part of Open Jar’s Broadway Workroom in NYC
