From their hometown of Kingston, ON, Rob Baker, Gord Downie, Johnny Fay, Paul Langlois, and Gord Sinclair skyrocketed to fame as The Tragically Hip with their signature blend of rock anthems and poetic lyricism. Over their storied career, the band released 14 studio albums, 10 of which hit #1 in Canada, won 17 Juno Awards, in 2021 were awarded the Humanitarian Juno. They were also inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and have received 2 stars on Canada’s Walk Of Fame, most recently for their Humanitarian efforts. Their 2016 cross-Canada tour, undertaken after Downie’s terminal cancer diagnosis, and their final concert was a cultural phenomenon viewed by millions around the world. On September 5, 2024, celebrating their 40th anniversary, The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal, a definitive four-part documentary series, covering the bands’ career , and directed by Mike Downie, premiered at The Toronto International Film Festival, winning the People’s Choice Award, and went on to win 7 Canadian Screen Awards in 2025. The documentary is currently streaming on Amazon Prime worldwide. The band members have all been appointed Members of the Order of Canada.
